any one of a large group of invertebrate animals having segmented (jointed) bodies and hollow, jointed legs. The antennae, wings, and legs of arthropods are articulated in pairs. Insects (such as beetles and bees), arachnids (such as spiders and mites), crustaceans (such as lobsters and crabs), and the extinct trilobites are arthropods.
